In a clear indication that the Upper East Side remains prime gallery territory, David Zwirner is returning uptown to occupy space at 34 East 69th Street.
Zwirner, which also has two galleries in Chelsea, one in London and one that will open in Hong Kong next year, plans to use the space for private viewings, special projects and one to two focused historical exhibitions a year.
Zwirner will share the space with an advisory firm, Adler Beatty. The firm is run by Frances Beatty — who for 35 years has been with the Richard Feigen gallery at that location — and her son, Alexander Adler. Feigen is relocating to 36 East 73rd Street.
Ms. Beatty will continue to represent the estate of the artist Ray Johnson.
Zwirner & Wirth was at 32 East 69th Street between 2000 and 2009, led by Kristine Bell, who is now a senior partner at Zwirner.
